Once upon a time there was a peaceful, sleepy village called Joytown, founded on freedom upon the frontiers of the world wide cobweb, dedicated to celebrating and discussing the musical genius of Kevin Gilbert and related musical issues.  It was a happy place filled with musicians and fans alike, sharing tidbits and insights and more than a few laughs.  But one day, a terrible flame overwhelmed the land, and all our crops died.  None of the village seers could explain just what went wrong.  It fell to me, the Village Idiot, to document the lives of our anarchic citizens.  This page stands as a memorial to an ideal that we all, as loyal Joytowners, strove (and ultimately faltered and failed) to uphold - that of tolerance and appreciation of the good things we hold dear despite the ravages of the outside world.

LIFE IS SHORT.  SAVOR IT!

There are those who wish to blame specific parties or incidents for the ultimate destruction of our fair little town.  But as I, the Village Idiot, see it - the problem was that there was no longer enough joy in Joytown to hold it together.  It grew from a tiny settlement into an internet boomtown, and the anarchy of our frontier roots couldn't stand the tension.  I don't blame L&G or anybody else.  How could I?  It's just the world as it is.  The beat goes on.

Thanks for listening, keep the faith, and spread the words and music of Kevin Gilbert to all those you care about.  They will thank you for it, I'm sure.

(By the way, nobody was actually killed in the firebombing.  We just migrated elsewhere!)

iMo from ASC
Meet iMo; the man, the legend, the vision behind Anarchy Steering Committee. Born into a wealthy Oakland high society family, iMo, a kindergarden dropout, transcended his silver spoon roots to become San Francisco's leading supplier of rendered hog products to the restaurant industry.  Seriously, if Beck were impregnated by 1980's cult heavy metal band Helix, it would sound nothing like ASC.  For the songs to make total sense, you'll  need to check out the "official website" here:
www.earstation.com/asc/
(There are a lot of funny stories and pictures and naughty words there.)

iMo also has a cover of a KG tune up at the official site last time we checked.  Also visit ASC here: www.mp3.com/asc/

eric "agent cooper" frampton
Keyboardist Eric Frampton has been composing and performing since age six, and has been playing in bands since he was thirteen.  Often in demand for his studio programming, engineering, and production skills, in his spare time Eric likes bicycling, daydreaming, pinball, and figuring out new and improved ways to confound  "The Establishment".   Agent Cooper, his progressive rock band, is online at:  http://www.agentcooper.com

(sci-fi storyline set to music)

"Second Story is an original music project from the Philadelphia area.  The melding of an emotive female voice with fluid, thoughtful musical arrangements creates the unique sound that is Second Story.  With comparisons ranging from October Project and Sarah McLachlan to Peter Gabriel, Renaissance and Queensrÿche, there's certain to be something for everyone.

randy "music by accident" hiatt

recommended song: Diane
Randy is a drummer with a micro home studio, who says he purchased a guitar to have laying around... picked it up one day and made this tune (don't ask him what the chords are!)  Excuse the hiss ($100 guitar going through a $100 bass foot pedal)  "For this music experiment it was the thought that counts (I hope)... I wanted to impress my girlfriend."  Diane (the song) was originally done on a Teac 4trk tape deck with a 6 string electric guitar.  "I upped it to LogicAudio (Mac), where I added the keys and some drums/cymbals.  Burned it without touching a fader.  It's raw, still in the rough stages.  I like the way it unfolds a few minutes in. It's mellow, but still has an intensity about it."

Although great fans of Gilbert and progrock in general, Jack Cobb (singer/songwriter/rhythm guitar) and his Joytown cohorts Christopher Lajcin (lead guitar) and Jay Johnson (percussion) do not perform anything that could be labeled progressive in their poprock band "Jack & The FamilyMen" - but their lo fidelity high energy mix has it's moments of magic.  Their all original four piece organic combo plays locally at Chicago area bars, parties and coffeeshops.

kerry "Kompost" chicoine
Kompost is the brainchild of prog-pop rocker Kerry Kompost. Formed in 1997 and based in Los Angeles, Kompost comprises some of the most sophisticated art-pop this side of Jason Falkner. Kompost's 1999 debut release, 'Sweet' is chock full of soaring melodies, hook-filled choruses and atmospheric, surprising changes which will keep you captivated listen after listen.
In addition to Kompost, Kerry plays guitar and keyboards in Nipper and the Seaturtles featuring Nipper Seaturtle (aka Gwynne Kahn, formerly of The Negro Problem, Bean, and the Pandoras, among others).  Kerry also plays bass in LA pop band Kickstand featuring Ken West (Upsy Daisy), Wil O'Brien (the Andersons!) and Lisa Mychols (the Masticators).  Kerry has been involved in various bands and recording projects since the mid-1980s. In addition to Kompost, Kerry has produced recordings for artists such as the Bethsusans, the Beads, Love Desert and the Worldshakers.  From 1988 to 1993, Kerry nurtured the Beads, a Wings/George Harrison-inspired quartet, who produced three cassette releases.  From 93-96 he worked with the Bethsusans, who released two acoustic guitar-based cassettes.

anders levin
BopHouse is Anders Levin (keyboards, programming, vocals) with occasional help from Niklas Relander (guitars, keyboards and co-writing.)  Anders is located in Gothenburg, Sweden, while Niklas now lives in Ekenäs, Finland - so they collaborate by exchanging MP3 files via E-mail.   That collaboraton has resulted in the web-only release of a CD named "The Web-collection and more...".   More are in the works, so that's one great reason to visit their websites.  Their sound is best described as "melodic, cyber-jazz-funky" but we'll let the music talk for itself!

lee "Voltz" sebel
Lee was classically trained on piano from age 8, formal synthesis study beginning at age 17.  He has consulted, programmed and arranged for major recording artists and home hobbyists alike, as well as playing a variety of gigs "from chicken wire to tuxedos."  He has been working with synthesizers now for over 20 years, including stints with major manufacturers.  Lee says it's been his privilege to work with some wonderful players and teachers in his 30+ years in the music industry.

randy walker
Among other impressive things on his resume, Randy performed and toured with Wang Chung back in 1987.
Randy recently had surgery for Tendonitis with severe nerve
damage, likely brought on by years of playing.  " My surgeon gave me a choice of correcting it or within three months not being able to play again.  The down side was having to bow out of my gig with A.J....  but I am back playing harder than ever, no pain and no numbness.  I highly recommend having the surgery for anyone who suffers from this condition." Randy has a terrific website with audio samples and more information. www.randywalker.com

Rebecca Johnson is a bass player and singer with 16 years professional experience in the music industry. scott "glass house" richards
In addition to being an accomplished gynecologist, Scott is a multi-instrumentalist writer/producer and the main creative force behind 80’s/90’s L.A. progpop group Glass House.  Have a listen by clicking below! He is currently working on an independent solo release due out sometime in the next decade, which will include his version of KG.s Best Laid Plans (slated for the tribute project as well). Scott also maintains an MP3 station called "Music On Tap", dedicated to players of tap style instruments (i.e. Chapman Stick, Warr Guitar etc.) He is also writing and producing a children’s music project (really) called Erock For Kids.  (Just kidding about the gynecologist thing.  Scott adds that he's "really not all that accomplished”.)
